Hi Parents of Calina Heights Kindergarteners!
Learning for your child does not need to end when the school bell rings at 3:00. It can and should be a continuous, lifelong adventure! Here are some tips for ways to keep on learning.
The Children's Museum of South Carolina is a great place for kids! This museum is filled with all sorts of interactive fun and learning. From teaching kids to recycle to being money savvy to building houses, there's something for every type of learner!
Another great learning adventure to go on with your child is at the South Carolina Aquarium. Children can see all sorts of sea life from the Penguin Planet to sharks at the Ocean Exhibit or visit the Touch Tank and enjoy some hands-on learning with sea urchins and starfish. The learning here as limitless as the waves of the ocean!
Finally, go and explore the great outdoors with your child. Get down and dirty with mother nature. At South Carolina's parks there are tons of outdoor activities to keep the fun and learning rolling. From seeing the beautiful flowers, to boating, fishing, hiking and exploring the trails, lakes and waterfalls.
Happy Learning and Exploring. Life truly is an adventure!!

Instilling a Love of Reading
Hi Parents!
I am posting three websites I discovered that I found helpful to captivate children in the wonderful world of literature! Now, children can take advantage of the internet and find books they enjoy to read online-of course with the help and supervision of mom and dad!
Happy Reading!
http://www.magickeys.com/books/ On this first website children can discover books to read from short and easy picture books to higher level longer books. There are a wide range of books available for all levels and interests!
http://www.poetry4kids.com With this website children are able to get there feet wet in the wonderful, exciting world of poetry. There is so much for children to do on this website from reading funny poems to playing poetry games, there is a rhyming dictionary which is a great resource for kids to use as they take poetry lessons through this website to learn to write their very own poems!
http://www.storyplace.org/storyplace.asp And last, but certainly not least. This website was my favorite find, I was quite pleased with the discovery of this great site! It is an interactive site where children can choose how the story will progress. There is a preschool and elementary school level you can select from, each one features several digital, interactive books of different themes along with a myriad of other activities, games and suggested reading that goes along with the selected topic.
Be sure to check out these great websites with your child!! Have a ball in the new worlds you will discover and adventures you will encounter!

Kid-Friendly Websites
Hello Parents!
Here are 3 websites you may find helpful to introduce to your children. These are great, safe resources your child can use themselves to search the web for topics that are of interest to them.
The first one is http://www.askkids.com/, on this website children can use this search engine, which is essentially ask.com, except the version for a younger audience. On this website children can look up images, videos, movies or click on the school house link which is broken down into different subjects such as math, science or history.
Another great resource for children to extend their learning outside the classroom and into the living room is http://www.kidsclick.org/. This is a web search for kids set up by librarians. There are endless categories at your child's fingertips for their learning and exploration. Some of these include the arts, science/math, literature, weird & mysterious, and sports & recreation to name just a few!
The last website that kids can use is http://www.factmonster.com/. This is a free reference site for kids. They can look up facts on thousands of subjects ranging from sports to science, "word wise", and cool stuff. This is a great kid-friendly site, with lots of appeal for your child who is ready to explore and learn about the world around them.
Happy Learning! Enjoy :)
